Many wonder why Jesus didn’t explicitly say, “I am God, worship me.” Here’s why:
Jesus gradually revealed His identity so that people would discover the truth themselves rather than being forced to accept it.
Matthew 16:15-17 – When Peter said, “You are the Christ, the Son of the living God,” Jesus responded, “Flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my Father who is in heaven.”
Jesus wanted people to come to faith through revelation, not coercion.
Most Jews expected a political Messiah, not God in human form.
- If Jesus had simply said, “I am God,” they would have misunderstood Him.
- Instead, He showed His divinity through actions (miracles, authority over demons, power over nature).
John 10:30-33 – Jesus said, “I and the Father are one.”
The Jews understood He was claiming divinity, so they picked up stones to kill Him for blasphemy.
Jesus didn’t hide His identity, but He revealed it in a way that those with faith would recognize Him.
Philippians 2:6-8 – “Though He was in the form of God, He did not count equality with God a thing to be grasped, but humbled Himself.”
- Jesus came as a servant, not demanding worship.
- His mission was to die for our sins, not to be politically accepted.
Jesus’ declaration of being “the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last” is a direct claim to His divinity. These titles, used in the Book of Revelation, reveal that Jesus is eternal, sovereign, and fully God.
What Does “Alpha and Omega” Mean?
- Alpha (Α) is the first letter of the Greek alphabet, and Omega (Ω) is the last.
- This phrase signifies eternity, completeness, and sovereignty—attributes that belong only to God Almighty.
- It expresses that God is the beginning and the end, the source of all things, and the ultimate fulfillment of history.
Jesus’ Use of “Alpha and Omega” in Revelation
Jesus explicitly refers to Himself as Alpha and Omega in several places:
- Revelation 1:8 – “I am the Alpha and the Omega,” says the Lord God, “who is, and who was, and who is to come, the Almighty.”
- This verse directly attributes divinity to Jesus, calling Him “the Almighty.”
- Revelation 1:17-18 – “Do not be afraid. I am the First and the Last. I am the Living One; I was dead, and now look, I am alive for ever and ever!
- This verse leaves no doubt that the speaker is Jesus because He was dead and now lives forever—a clear reference to His death and resurrection.
- Revelation 22:12-13 – “Look, I am coming soon! My reward is with me, and I will give to each person according to what they have done. I am the Alpha and the Omega, the First and the Last, the Beginning and the End.
- Jesus declares Himself as the eternal judge, a role that belongs only to God (see Ecclesiastes 12:14, Matthew 25:31-46).
His humility was part of God’s plan for salvation.

In various places in the Bible, Jesus avoids directly proclaiming Himself as God, but instead, others testify about Him. This is intentional and deeply rooted in Jewish law, humility, and God’s divine plan.
In Jewish law, a person’s testimony about themselves was not considered valid in legal matters.
Deuteronomy 19:15 – “A matter must be established by the testimony of two or three witnesses.”
If Jesus had only testified about Himself, people could have dismissed His claim as invalid according to Jewish law. Instead, He presented multiple witnesses to confirm who He was.
John 5:31 – “If I testify about myself, my testimony is not true.”
Jesus was saying that His testimony alone was not legally sufficient, but He had other witnesses who proved He was God.
John the Baptist, Who Testified About Jesus in John 1:29 – “Behold! The Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world!”
What Jesus says about John,
Matthew 11:11 – “Truly I tell you, among those born of women there has not risen anyone greater than John the Baptist.”
Jesus makes a powerful statement about John the Baptist, saying that among those born of women, there is no one greater than him. This means that, out of all the prophets, leaders, and righteous people before him, John holds the highest position.
Why is John considered the greatest?
- He was the last and greatest prophet before Christ. John was the forerunner of Jesus, the one who prepared the way for the Messiah (Isaiah 40:3, Malachi 3:1).
- He directly introduced Jesus. No other prophet had the privilege of physically pointing to Jesus and declaring, “Behold, the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world!” (John 1:29).
- He lived with extraordinary devotion. John lived a life of deep sacrifice, fully committed to God’s mission (Matthew 3:4).
John 5:33-35 – Jesus says John testified about Him.
Why John’s testimony was important:
- John was a respected prophet known to the Jews.
- He prepared the way for the Messiah (Isaiah 40:3).
- His testimony fulfilled Old Testament prophecy.
John’s testimony was powerful because it aligned with what God had already revealed in Scripture.
Jesus says In, John 5:36 – “The works that I do bear witness about me, that the Father has sent me.”
Why miracles mattered:
- The Old Testament predicted the Messiah would do great miracles (Isaiah 35:5-6).
- Jesus healed the sick, gave sight to the blind, and raised the dead—proving divine power.
- The miracles confirmed His identity as God in the flesh (John 10:25).
Matthew 3:17 – “This is my beloved Son, in whom I am well pleased.” (At Jesus’ baptism)
John 5:37 – “The Father who sent me has himself testified concerning me.”
Why the Father’s testimony is ultimate:
- God spoke audibly at Jesus’ baptism and the Transfiguration.
- The Jews respected God’s voice above all others.
- This was the highest and most irrefutable testimony.
If God Himself declared Jesus as His Son, that settles it!
John 5:39 – “You search the Scriptures because you think that in them you have eternal life, and it is they that bear witness about me.”
The Old Testament pointed directly to Jesus:
- He fulfilled over 300 prophecies about the Messiah.
- Prophets like Isaiah, Daniel, and Zechariah spoke about Him centuries before His birth.
The written Word of God testified to Jesus’ divine identity.
Before proving that Jesus is God, we must first define who God is. The Bible teaches that God possesses unique attributes that no one else can claim:
- God is the Creator – Only God can create from nothing. (Genesis 1:1)
- God is Eternal – No beginning or end. (Psalm 90:2)
- God is All-Powerful (Omnipotent) – Controls everything. (Jeremiah 32:17)
- God is All-Knowing (Omniscient) – Knows all things. (Isaiah 46:9-10)
- God is the Only One to Be Worshiped – Worship belongs to God alone. (Isaiah 42:8)
- God is the Judge of All – God alone has authority to judge humanity. (Ecclesiastes 12:14)
- God is the Forgiver of Sins – Only God can forgive sin. (Isaiah 43:25)
If Jesus possesses these attributes, then logically, Jesus must be God.
Now, let’s examine whether Jesus possesses the unique attributes of God.
Jesus as the Creator (Only God Creates)
John 1:3 – “Through Him all things were made; without Him, nothing was made that has been made.”
Colossians 1:16 – “For by Him all things were created… all things were created through Him and for Him.”
Jesus is Eternal (Only God is Eternal)
John 8:58 – “Before Abraham was, I AM.” (Referring to Exodus 3:14, where God calls Himself “I AM”)
Hebrews 13:8 – “Jesus Christ is the same yesterday, today, and forever.”
Logical Conclusion: If Jesus existed before time and never changes, He must be eternal—and only God is eternal.
Jesus is All-Powerful (Only God is Omnipotent)
Matthew 28:18 – “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to Me.”
Mark 4:39 – Jesus calmed the storm with a command: “Peace, be still!” and the storm immediately stopped.
If Jesus has power over nature and all authority, He possesses God’s omnipotence.
Jesus is All-Knowing (Only God is Omniscient)
John 16:30 – “Now we can see that You know all things.”
John 2:25 – “He did not need any testimony about mankind, for He knew what was in each person.”
Since Jesus knows all things, this proves He has the mind of God.
Jesus Receives Worship (Only God Can Be Worshiped)
God commands that worship belongs only to Him:
Isaiah 42:8 – “I am the Lord; that is My name! I will not yield My glory to another or My praise to idols.”
Yet, Jesus accepts worship:
Matthew 14:33 – “Then those who were in the boat worshiped Him, saying, ‘Truly You are the Son of God.’”
John 9:38 – “Then the man said, ‘Lord, I believe,’ and he worshiped Him.”
If only God should be worshiped, and Jesus accepted worship, then Jesus must be God.
Jesus does not only display divine attributes, but He also claims to be God.
John 8:58 – “Before Abraham was, I AM.”
Jesus claimed God’s personal name from Exodus 3:14 when God told Moses, “I AM WHO I AM.”
The Jews immediately tried to stone Him (John 8:59) because they knew He was claiming to be God.
John 10:30 – “I and the Father are one.”
The Jews tried to stone Him again, saying: “You, a mere man, claim to be God!” (John 10:33).
The Jews understood Jesus’ claim clearly—He was saying He is God.
Mark 2:5-7 – Jesus said to a paralyzed man:
“Son, your sins are forgiven.”
The religious leaders responded: “Who can forgive sins but God alone?”
If only God can forgive sins, and Jesus forgives sins, then Jesus is God.
If Jesus claims to be God, there are only three logical possibilities:
Jesus is a Liar – He knew He was not God, but deceived people.
Jesus is a Lunatic – He sincerely believed He was God but was insane.
Jesus is Lord – He told the truth and is truly God.
Jesus was not a liar – His teachings were based on truth, love, and righteousness.
Jesus was not a lunatic – His wisdom and miracles proved He had divine power.
The only logical answer: Jesus is Lord—He is God.
The ultimate proof of Jesus’ divinity is His resurrection.
John 2:19-21 – “Destroy this temple, and I will raise it again in three days.” (He was talking about His body.)
Romans 1:4 – “Jesus was declared to be the Son of God with power by His resurrection from the dead.”
If Jesus rose from the dead, His claims are true—He is God in the flesh.
The whole Bible talk about Jesus and proves, that Jesus is God, and His identity was confirmed by multiple witnesses. His works, miracles, the Scriptures, and God Himself all testify that Jesus is the Christ, the Son of God.
By believing in Jesus, we receive forgiveness, salvation, and eternal life (John 3:16).
